Underworld Series Chapter 19

Across the hallway overlooking the hotel lobby, five men were exchanging glances with each other. One of them pointed towards the suite facing the aisle. The door of the suite was ajar. Five assassin clad in business suits looked around and assembled near the doorway. Their target was the Lord of the Mafia, the King Nodin as he was called. The assassin near the door, peeped inside and confirmed that there were five persons sitting in the suite. The five of them drew their guns. The one ahead of everyone, signalled something and the rest of them swarmed in a formation. With a bang, all of them entered the room and started firing. To their surprise the bullets passed through the bodies of the five persons without a sign of blood. Before they could realise that they entered a chamber of virtual reality, they were cornered and fired upon. None of them could survive the attack. There was blood everywhere, in pool of which, laid five bodies. A pair of blood stained thick heels could be seen standing in a pool of blood. She bent over and searched the five bodies, took out their IDs and phones. She then dialled a number on the phone of one of the assassins.

A female voice : 80% of your fortune and retire. Announce this tomorrow. Otherwise, you know the price.

A male voice(on the other side of receiver) : Give the castle to my son. And the car too, rest is yours.

The lady on the phone hung it up, directed her men to dispose the bodies and drove out in her car. While driving back to the King, she kept thinking about the sudden increase in the intensity of the attacks. “ This one is 10th in this week. The King has thrown himself in real trouble. It looks like almost everyone hold some grudge against him.” Menaka thought. Menaka was the trusted commander of the King. She herself was an assassin before entering the ranks of the Mafia. She was badly hurt in a local gang war in the drug racket she used to work for. The King saved and trained her for his own groups. In a year, she was turned into an international assassin from a local gang woman. She climbed up the ranks and became the supreme commander of the Mafia.

She dialled her phone again and said, “ Clear the accounts of Murad. Leave his castle and car”. She headed straight towards the castle. She found the rest of the four in serious discussion about the course of war. She trusted Nodin for the cause he was fighting for. When Nodin took her to his castle in her injured state, she presumed he was taking her to make her his mercenary whore. She believed in her own presumption so much so that she refused the offer to join his mafia. She was a free woman. In the local gang she used to work earlier, she was feared, even by the boss of the gang. She was respected and admired for her skills, for her courage, for her fortitude. But now, she thought she was going to be someone’s mistress and this thought made her shiver. She loved her freedom and she wanted to protect it at any cost, even at the cost of her own life.

She remembered the day when she was lying there in the hospital, writhing in pain, adorned with scars and bullet wounds, and wrapped in bandages. A tall and full fleshed lady was trying to convince her to eat. A grave looking man in spectacles was watching the whole spectacle with an indifference. He was the Chief Analyst of the Mafia. When he heard that Nodin had brought an injured girl, he knew Nodin had something in his mind. When his secretary told him that the injured girl had been resisting any attempt of familiarity, he became assured that Nodin had chosen a right one. He called on D’cista to make a visit to the girl. D’cista maintained her cool the whole time and finally, when the injured girl saw a light of freedom in her eyes, she accepted the food.
